World Turtle Day®!

Happy World Turtle Day®!

American Tortoise Rescue, a nonprofit organization, created this day almost 20 years ago to help people celebrate and protect turtles and tortoises and their disappearing habitats around the world.

For more than 100 million years sea turtles have covered vast distances across the world’s oceans, filling a vital role in the balance of wildlife. We need to continue to protect these important animals.

Here are a few small things you can do to help saves turtles: Adopt a turtle instead of buying one from the pet shops. Never remove or touch a turtle in the wild (unless they are sick or injured). If a tortoise is crossing a busy street, pick it up, and send it in the same direction it was going – if you try to make it go back, it will turn right around again. Report any illegal sales of turtles or tortoises to animal control. You can also consider supporting of one the many nonprofit organizations out there working to protect these important animals to our world.

P.S. Emma thanks you! You will meet Emma in my upcoming children’s book coming out soon!

Crater Lake National Park

Happy 119th anniversary to Crater Lake National Park located in Oregon!

About 7,700 years ago, Mount Mazama erupted creating the deepest lake in the United States and the 9th deepest in the world.  With a depth of 1,943 feet, Crater Lake is the  one of the most beautiful lakes you will ever see. The water’s intense blue color is an indication of its great depth and purity. Surrounded by cliffs, the lake is fed entirely by rain and snow. Scientists consider Crater Lake to be the cleanest and clearest large body of water in the world.

Enjoy a few photos from our visit there last October. As you will see, it was a bit hazy from fires in the area. But, the smoke and haze can’t hide this national park’s beauty!

If you’re in the area, I highly recommend checking out this national park as it is one of my favorites!

Mothers

“Your mother died to save you. If there is one thing Voldemort cannot understand, it is love. Love as powerful as your mother’s for you leaves it’s own mark. To have been loved so deeply, even though the person who loved us is gone, will give us some protection forever.”

Mothers exist all over children’s literature as well as quotes about them. Enjoy this one particular quote above from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Star Wars Day

George Lucas created this magical franchise with the first film back in 1977 and it operates now as a huge enterprise!

While most people think of the movies when they think about Star Wars, many novels have been written about all the creative characters and stories. Enjoy a few minutes and read one of the many Star Wars books or comics out there!

Happy reading! May the 4th be with you!
